But in those days there was no compulsion. The parents willingly gave presents, ornaments and money to their daughters at the time of her marriage. But in present time this practice has taken a very bad shape. Now it is a compulsion. Now it is demanded and settled after a hard bargain. If it is not fulfilled by the parents, it affects the after marriage life of the girl. She is treated very badly by her in-laws and sometimes belated mercilessly.

Sometimes she is murdered for dowry. Sometimes many young girls commit suicide after marriage. Girl's parents are insulted again and again.

Why People give Dowry?

The parents of a girl wish for a happy married life of their daughter. That is why they save money from the very beginning for their daughter's marriage. If their saving is not enough, they sell their lands or take loans. They do all this just because of their daughter's happiness. So that their daughter can live a happy married life.

Conclusion

The dowry is a curse for the society. It must be rooted out. The society needs reformation. It is a duty of all educated people to come forward and take a strict step in uprooting this evil practice from the society.
