Introduction
Women empowerment means liberating girls from the vicious grips of social, economical, political, caste and gender-based discrimination. It means granting women the liberty to form life choices. Woman may be a being with senses, power of imagination and thinking, she should be able to express them freely. Individual empowerment means to possess the self-confidence to articulate and assert the facility to barter and choice.
How Women Empowerment came into establishment ?
The principle of gender equality was recognized in the United Nations Charter in 1945 and UN declaration of Human Rights in 1948,the majority of development planners did not fully address the role of women in the development process. In 1975 the first UN conference of Women and Development was held at Mexico city under the motto "Equality", "development" and "peace". The need to integrate women into development was internationally proclaimed within the 1995 Bejing conference.
According to Menon and Probhu (2001) there was a robust plea for investing in women's equality on the bottom that this made economic sense and spoke of "the social rate of return on investment in women" being greater than the corresponding rate for men. According to Paten (2002),Women's development can be attained by improving her status and bargaining power in the economy.
Conclusion
It can only be achieved when there is attitudinal change in society with reference to women ,treating them with proper respect, dignity, fairness and equality.
