Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam was the 11th president of India. He was an aerospace scientist and also a writer. He worked as an aerospace engineer at Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) before becoming president of India.

Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam was born on 15th October 1931 at Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu. His father Jainulabdeen was a fisherman while his mother was a housewife.

APJ Abdul Kalam's full name was Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam. He was also referred to as missile man of India.

Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam studied Aerospace engineering from Madras Institute of Technology. At the beginning of his carrier itself he designed a small helicopter for Indian Army. He is referred to as the Missile Man of India. He also played an important role in India's Pokhran-II nuclear tests in 1998.He was known as the People's President and also received the Bharat Ratna, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and many more.

Contribution of APJ Abdul Kalam

As a president he took efforts to understand the mindset of people and connect with them. He opened Rashtrapati Bhavan for the common people. This is the reason why he was also known as People's President.

  • He was the project director in ISRO.
  • He played an important role in nuclear tests carried out in Pokharan in 1998.
  • He was also involved in the Light Combat Aircraft Project of the country.
  • He worked to produce light weight calipers for the patients who are not able to move or have mortar disabilities.
