Feminism : Good or Bad

Defining Feminism

Feminism is all about gender equality of having equal rights and opportunities. It is the advocacy of women's social, political and all other rights equal to those of men.

Lets Understand the Feminism

If we look up the definition of feminism in dictionary then we got to know that Feminism is :
  1. The advocacy of women's rights on the bottom of the equality of the sexes.
  2. Is a range of social movements ,political movements and ideologies that aim to define, establish and achieve the political, economic, personal and social equality of the sexes.
  3. The theory of political, economic and social equality of the sexes.

Types of Feminism in India

  1. Liberal feminism
  2. Radical feminism
  3. Cultural feminism
  4. Eco-feminism

Some Indian Feminists :

  • Savitribai Phule : Started the primary school for women.
  • Kamini Roy : Poet and first woman honors graduate.
  • Devaki Jain : Founding father of the Institute of Social Studies Trust and Scholar within the field of  feminist economics.
  • Nivedita Menon : Feminist and academic. Author of seeing like a feminist.
  • Pandita Ramabai : Social reformer, a champion for the emancipation of girls in British India.
  • Mira Datta Gupta : One of the founding members of the All India Women's Conference.
  • Amrita Pritam : First woman to win Sahitya Akademi Award for literature.
The typical Indian woman is disassociated with the feminism they do not understand what it is. So the first thing that needs to be done is to aware the women of small town and villages about what feminism is and what their rights are. So that they can come out and stand by the society.
It is widely thought to be anti-men. Most of the people do not know what feminism is and what does it stands for. They use this term as anti-men. This gender antagonism does nothing to advance the unfinished business of equality. A lot of anti-feminist folks make the argument that feminists believe that all men are evil. That is not true. Feminist is not someone who hates man. Anyone can be a feminist and you do not need to be politically active for that.

Here are some inspiring quotes about feminism that may change your mind
Men are afraid that ladies will tease them, Women are afraid that men will kill them
-Margaret Atwood

A feminist is anyone who recognizes the equality and full humanity of girls and men
-Gloria Steinem
