Definition of Childhood

Childhood
Childhood is the time for young people to be in school and playing, to grow strong and secure with the love and encouragement of their family and an extended community of caring adults. It is a precious time during which children must live without fear, safe from violence and protected from abuse and exploitation.
In other words we will say that Childhood is that the space between birth and attainment of adulthood. It refers to the state and condition of a child's life.
Despite intellectual debates over the definition of childhood and cultural differences about what to expect from children, there has always been a substantial degree of shared understanding that childhood involves a separate and safe space.
What are the different stages of Childhood?
The most difficult a part of parenting is deciding during which developmental stage your child is and what they ought to do to assist them grow and learn for his or her better development. Stages of childhood are:
  1. Newborn
  2. Infancy
  3. Toddler
  4. Pre school
  5. School
  6. Adolescent
  • Newborn - It is the initial stage of childhood which lasts from birth to one month. During this stage a child starts to react on outer stimulus such as sounds and touch.
  • Infancy - This stage stays from one month to twelve months. During this stage a child starts giving better responses to other, they start giving response on their names, shake their head and smile on different expressions of people.
  • Toddler - This stage starts from one year and lasted to three years. In this stage they walk with their own, jump and climb on higher placed things.
  • Pre school - This stage starts from three years and stays upto five years. This is much more advance stage as compared to toddler. In this stage their walking and conversation skills are improving. They can understand the people around them much better.
  • School - Period between six to twelve years comes under school age. In this stage children starts making friends of their same age group.
  • Adolescent - Thirteen to eighteen years comes under adolescent stage. It can be also known as Teen age. It is the most important and confusing period of a child as there are so many hormonal changes occur in their body. During this stage a child requires a lot of support from his/her family.
