National Girl Child Day is celebrated on 24th of January every year.This day is celebrated to spread awareness about gender inequality in Indian society.It was started in 2008 by the ministry of Women and Child Development.

Why National Girl Child Day is celebrated in India ?

National Girl Child Day is celebrated to focus the challenges that girls face in indian society.It emphasises on those challenges which are faced by a girl in indian society due to gender inequality and some gender stereotypes.

  • National Girl Child Day is celebrated to ensure equal opportunities to the girls in each and every field like education,health,sports etc.
  • This day is celebrated to motivate the girls that they are not less than boys and can compete with them in every field.
  • National Girl Child Day is also meant to be celebrated to spread awareness about the declining child sex ratio in India.
  • There are many programs launched all over the country to improve the status of girls.
  • "Beti Bachao,Beti Padhao" is one of them which was launched by the Indian Government.
  • On this day various programs are run by the government.
  • Various organisations provide self-defence training program to the girls. 
  • The main motive to celebrate this day is to provide a girl child all her human rights so that she can live equally in this society with her all rights.
